Paynesville is an easy three hour drive east from Melbourne. While driving, stop off at Yarragorn, a pleasant town about one-and-a-quarter-hours from Melbourne with good cafes and several galleries.

The freeways are excellent and you will pass through the dairy country of West Gippsland, the Latrobe valley, the Strezlecki ranges of Central Gippsland and then the rich dairy, beef and sheep country of East Gippsland. Further east of Paynesville are the mighty hardwood, semi-temperate rainforests forests of East Gippsland.
